Biography
Richard Penson is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Clinical Director of Medical Gynecologic Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. He is also the Clinical Director Cancer Services at Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Dr. Penson is a faculty member teaching Patient Doctor I for first year Harvard Medical students, and serves each year as an attending on the Bigelow General Medical Service at Massachusetts General Hospital. He trained at St Bart’s and Guy’s Hospitals in London, UK and came to the US in 1997. His oncology practice is devoted almost exclusively to gynecologic oncology with approximately a quarter of his patients treated on therapeutic clinical trials. Dr. Penson is one of the chairs for of the Institutional Review Board for Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, and sits on the Ovarian Committee for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and on the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) committee for Health Outcomes Research. He on the Editorial Board of The Oncologist and Medical Humanities.
